Next phase of N-Power to employ 30,000 graduates




The federal government has said it will employ 300,000 additional graduates for the next phase of N-Power volunteer programme.

Speaking in Abuja the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Lai Mohammed said the federal government is committed to tackling youth employment in Nigeria.



“We did not create today’s hardships, but we have resolved to end it and make life more abundant for our people. All we ask is your undiluted support,” Mohammed said.

He said that over one million Nigerians are currently willing to access loans between N200,000 and N100,000. 

The minister added that N500 billion has been earmarked in the 2017 budget to help sustain a social intervention plan proposed by the FG.




Also speaking, the minister of power, Babatunde Fashola said the economic recession raving the country will soon end.

Fashola said: “In the 1970s, there was a lot of money from oil, but by 1984, all the money was gone. My contact with recession was that it was difficult to get sugar at that time and there was no food to get at the school cafeteria.

 Events happened as a result of what we did as well as what we could not control like the global oil price.”


He also said the negative growth witnessed by Nigeria’s economy would be reversed once good consumed by Nigerians are produced in Nigeria. 

The federal government had earlier said that 25,000 cooks have been trained and are ready for immediate employment. FG said the cooks will be deployed for the home-grown school feeding programme in nine different states of the country. 

It also said that the programme had already kicked off in three states in Nigeria.
